So work has continued at a reasonable pace, and four weeks ago we were given the handover date of 9th June. We waited as long as we could to give notice at our rental and book removalists to make sure that we wouldn’t end up homeless, but finally went ahead, despite misgivings. We need to stop paying rent!
Carpets, wood heaters, ceiling fans, AC, appliances, plumbing fixtures etc all went in. Photos don’t do it justice – the colours do actually all blend! WIR carpet looks so odd in the photo!

Few issues , but nothing too bad – semi frameless shower in the main bathroom is fully framed – so in dispute. So wish we’d gone frameless and fully tiled.
Louvretec roof went in backwards – opening to the south, not the north – now fixed. Not enough lighting in the WIR or ensuite toilet – extra lights added. Lights out the front swapped to floodlights. No biggies.
But despite this, my task for Monday morning (5th June) is to try to rebook the removalist and extend the rental by a week. Aargh!!! Fingers crossed.
The sparkies still have a bit of work to do, and some tiles in the bathroom need to be removed and replaced, because they drilled the holes to mount the towel rail in the wrong place. And then of course, the towel rail needs to be mounted and wired in. The ovens need to be straightened, a hanging rail needs to be fitted, exhaust fans need to be routed outside and a few other miscellaneous jobs inside need to be completed. The outside paving needs to be completed, posts at the front and back need to be sanded and painted, front door painted, 2nd coat outside etc. The whole house cleaned…. A lot of work for 4 days, and that’s not even counting the biggies!
You guessed it – the BAL rating is still not fixed! Next week for sure!!!!????
And then it still needs to pass inspection to get the occupancy certificate….
And when the builder went round looking at all the defects in the painting etc, he thinks the whole house needs to be repainted internally, floor touched up etc etc.
So the saga continues. I just hope that I can change the move date, otherwise not quite sure what we’ll do. The builder says we can move our furniture in, but not so keen on that if everything is being painted. As a minimum though, the fish have to move in, because my daughter leaves for a holiday on the 14th, and there is NO way we are taking responsibility for catching and moving them and setting up the tanks….
