Heard a couple of koalas the other day – very unusual during daytime. Looked around and got a few photos and video on the phone. Unfortunately can’t post video here – the sound from the male comes out really clearly, but missed recording the female – I’ve posted it on facebook though. It’s amazing how loud it is! Male koalas make very loud long deep grunting sounds to attract females, while the female koala screams – sounds very much like a woman. screaming. Its quite disconcerting the first time you hear it camping in the bush!
In the photos below, the male koala is chasing the female koala up the tree, with lots of noise.
